Swing into Victory!
VE80 Day Special: Swing Field Unit in Concert
Brighton Beach Bandstand 1pm to 4pm Free
Travel back to the sounds of the 1940s as the Swing Field Unit performs in authentic US military uniforms to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day! This professional re-enactment group brings to life the spirit of the European Theatre of Operations with their historically accurate portrayal of musicians from the US 16th Infantry Regiment Band, 1st Infantry Division.
Join us for an swish afternoon of swinging rhythms and nostalgic melodies as they entertain the troops, trippers, and veterans just as small combos did during WWII, performing just outside combat zones to boost morale during the darkest days of the war.
Complete with a talented civilian female vocalist: the Marvellous Martha Miller- the Swing Field Unit offers an authentic glimpse into how music provided essential respite from the daily struggles and fears during wartime.
Don’t miss this special tribute to the music that kept spirits high through history’s most challenging times, with a fabulous opportunity to buy the bands music on CD’s.
Deckchairs and dancing space available free of charge!
Bring your dancing shoes and join us for a swinging celebration of peace and remembrance!
