Redbridge Museum is launching an online film for VE Day and an exhibition (opening in late May at the Museum) which explores the local impacts of the Second World War in Ilford, Wanstead, and Woodford in what is now the London Borough of Redbridge.
Using objects, photographs, oral history and unique personal archives, the poignant film and exhibition explores the war through the eyes of local residents.
This includes the outbreak of war, evacuation of local children, the contribution of local industries and the Home Front, the damage caused by air raids, Victory celebrations and the bittersweet aftermath of the War. It is also recognises the wartime experiences of the families of Redbridge’s modern diverse communities,
Education sessions for schools are available which will provide exciting opportunities for hands-on learning.
