Read village will come together on Monday 5th May to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe.
The event will start with ringing of the church bells and a parade from the church to Read & Simonstone Constitutional Club.
The flag will then be raised at the club, before a fantastic afternoon of activities including a 1940s singer and karaoke, children’s competitions, raffles, cake stalls, a pizza van, hot dogs, scones and cream tea, plus much more.
There will also be a special giveaway of toy parachute people and Hershey’s bars at 1pm from local estate agent Pendle Hill Properties. Children under the age of 12 are invited to come along and collect their free items from a special WWII Airborne military jeep. The activity is to commemorate the Candy Bomber, an American pilot who gained fame for kindly dropping candy to German children during the Berlin airlift of 1948.
The event takes place from 12pm to 5pm on Monday 5th May.
