Revenge or Reconciliation: After War, What Next?

I am currently Chairman of West Berkshire Council. However I am also son of the youngest brigadier to survive the Burma Campaign, as Acting Commander 33rd Indian Infantry Brigade (Brig JS Vickers, ex 10GR) and myself am a Cold War veteran of 20 years – never a shot fired in anger at/by me.

The event will be a “comradely reflective discussion” led by my own son, Professor Edward Vickers, currently UNESCO Chair on Education for Peace, Social Justice and Global Citizenship at Kyushu State University, Japan, (married to a Japanese lady who will also be there) and a former Japanese Government Minister Yukihisa Fujita, Chairman, the International IC (Initiatives of Change) Association of Japan. It will be chaired by Bernard Clark, author of “Nagasaki” and former BBC documentary maker, who lives locally.

We have invited Burma Campaign Society, Gurkha Welfare Trust, British Legion Berkshire and Kohima Educational Trust to spread the word and hope local people with a family connection to WWII in Asia / Pacific will attend and share. I also expect our local community to show interest. Our local BBC reporter has already interviewed me.
