Thursday 8th May 2025 is the 80th Anniversary of VE Day while it isn’t a public holiday many towns and villages across the country will mark this historic day in some way. Now the beacon is in situ at Fosse Way Playing Field and the fabulous new path has been installed the Parish Council have agreed in principle to light the beacon at 9.30pm (for a very short time) that evening.
The beacon represents the ‘Light of Peace’. Everyone is welcome to see the beacon lit and bring a glass of beer/wine/water/squash to toast the memory of the brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
If you do not wish to come out at 9.30pm on a school night you could mark the occasion by sharing the ‘Light of Peace’ in your home by putting any kind of light (lamp/torch/candle) in your front window that evening.
