Join Horncastle History & Heritage Society for a special exhibition exploring stories of how local people celebrated VE Day in 1945 and experiences of wartime life in the town. Featuring real wartime artefacts and clothing, traditional toys and food tins and utensils.
We’ve decorated the museum in hand made flags and bunting just as the town was during VE Day. There is even a mock up Anderson Shelter to see in the Joseph Banks Tribute garden. You can also listen to Winston Churchill’s VE Day speech on our vintage radio.
Children can enjoy crafts and colouring in at our VE Day kids activity corner. There are also fascinating stories of wartime childhood to discover in our new book based on the memories of Len Blades ‘Horncastle At War: through the eyes of a nine year old boy’.
Open 10am-4pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays until 8th June. Free admission but all donations welcome.
Join us on the VE Day weekend for some special celebration activities.
