Digwyddiad Dathlu Heddwch Diwrnod VE Woodbridge

Later this month on the Saturday 10th of May, Woodbridge will proudly mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day with a day filled with remembrance, celebration, and community spirit. With just days to go, anticipation is building for what promises to be an unforgettable event.

The commemoration begins at noon at the War Memorial on Market Hill, where the community will gather for a flag-raising ceremony.

From there, the Royal British Legion Band will lead a public procession through the town, traveling down Church Street and Thoroughfare on the way to Elmhurst Park. Children are encouraged to bring and wave white flags and hankies to symbolise peace.

Once in Elmhurst Park, expect an afternoon of live entertainment, including performances from The Three Chordettes and their full band, as well as the Vintage Gramophone DJ, bringing the sounds of the 1940s to life.

No celebration is complete without delicious refreshments, and the first 300 guests will be treated to free scones and tea—a true taste of British tradition. For children, the fun continues with free vintage rides and games, ensuring there’s something for all ages to enjoy. In addition, there will be a BBQ, ice cream van and other food options available to purchase.

This wonderful event is made possible by Woodbridge Town Council who have invited several local organisations, including the Army, Scouts, Rotary Club, Inner Wheel, and the Royal British Legion to participate. Their contributions help make this day a meaningful and engaging tribute to our shared history.

Adding to the excitement, attendees are encouraged to dress in 1940s attire for a chance to win a prize in the Best Dressed Competition.
