Alan Ronald Cook to his mother Gladys Lavinia Cook

The letter is from my uncle to his mother. He sent it from Stalag VIIIB, in what is now western Poland, where he was a POW. He was in Bomber Command lost over Germany posted MIA presumed killed then turned up as a POW. The letter was the last time she ever heard from Alan. He was shot dead trying to escape on 19th June 1943. He is buried in the War Graves Cemetery in Krakow.

I discovered the letter on the passing of my aunt along with telegrams from the Red Cross and Alan’s Squadron Leader
