This is a copy of a letter from my Dad to my Mum in January 1945. He was a royal marine from 1940 to 1946. The original has sadly been lost. My Dad left school at 14 years old but, as I hope you can see, it is very eloquent with beautiful handwriting. My Dad passed away in 1978 aged 63 whilst Mum lived till the age of 99.
The love they shared is obvious in the words and although the war parted them for very long periods the love shines through it all. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary just 2 months before my Dad passed away. A long and very happy marriage. I’m their youngest daughter and treasure this letter knowing how much they loved each other.
