This photograph shows my father aged 8 celebrating VE Day in Geddington Northamptonshire.
He passed the photograph on to me before he died and remembered clearly the excitement of the day, the lengths the villagers had gone to to provide such a spread. He was also able to name many of the people in the photograph including his mother. My father is sitting just behind the yellow marker. He had many fond memories of US forces personnel stationed at the nearby airbase in Grafton Underwood in particular a service man that gave my father and his friends a tin of pineapple pieces, what a treat. My father went on to join the RAMC and for the rest of his life was a staunch supporter of our armed forces.
