This is one of the letters I found after my mum died, my mum and dad were married just before the war started. My dad survived and they went on to have 10 children, they were married for about 45 years before my dad passed away.
We found a tin with some letters and other bits in. My dad was a private and rose to be Sgt his demob record states “Well respected by his senior officers and men”. He never spoke about the war but I obtained his record and could see he served at home training other, then was sent out with Mediterranean expedition forces (MEF) then Africa and back to Sicily then on into mainland Italy, before returning home.
