These three letters were found in my Dad’s war memorabilia sent to him whilst fighting with the Royal Artillery based in the middle east during WWII.
The letters were from 2 of his 4 sisters ( Edie and Gert) and one from his Aunt Edie.
They thank him for gifts sent he has sent home to them – handbags and bracelets and his Aunt also talks about conditions at home and having to queue for hours for fish and meat. There is also news of family members – births etc and his sister talks of not knowing where her own husband is at this time – he was serving with the Royal Navy. I like how the letters describe life at home during this time and the ordinary routines of life alongside the uncertainty and unpredictability of war. My Dad was the youngest of 7 siblings and his mother had died when he was 13. I did not know all his siblings but he was particularly fond of Edie and remained close to her and another sister Margaret throughout my childhood.
