When mother passed away, aged 97, I found a number of letters and postcards from Jean, a corporal in the Belgium Army during WW2, who had been station in England in 1944. Some letters signed John, Johnny, Johnnet or Jean.
Although my mother and my grandmother visited Belgium and his family after the war I have no idea what happened to Jean.
I also found that the box, which my mother used for her jewellery, with an embroidered inset on the lid was from Jean. Under the embroidered inset, which fell out one day, the lid was craved ‘To Jessie with love Jean’.
