Lichfield VE Day Celebration

Thursday, 8 May – A Day of Remembrance and Festivity
On Thursday, 8 May, Lichfield City Council will host a VE Day celebration on the historic market square from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. This event commemorates Victory in Europe Day, marking the end of World War II in Europe.

The celebration will be an immersive experience that takes you back to the 1940s, featuring music from the era. Members of the public are encouraged to bring their own lunch and enjoy the nostalgic melodies. In addition to the music, there will be a pop-up café and a variety of refreshments, including ice cream and traditional Fish and Chips, embodying the spirit and flavors of the time.

Alongside the market square festivities, a Craft Fayre will be held on Minster Pool Walk from 10:00am to 4:00pm. This fayre will showcase a range of handcrafted items, offering a delightful opportunity to browse and purchase unique gifts.
Moreover, the Guildhall will host an exhibition of photographs from the era, providing a visual journey through history and a chance to reflect on the significance of VE Day.
Representatives from the Royal British Legion will be present, and the event will conclude with a moment of reflection as the last post is played. Come and join us for an afternoon of remembrance, community, and celebration as we honour the past and enjoy the present.
