John Mcloughlin to his father

The letter was left to my father following his own father’s death then left to me. It is from my dad’s brother who was a Japanese POW on the Burmese railway. He was always referred to by my Dad as our Jack.

It took some time to find him as his name was John. It is very sad to read as the reality of the conditions and suffering inflicted on the prisoners on the railway was abhorrent. The card was censored by the Japanese, therefore what he wrote was restricted.

Rest in peace Uncle John/Jack.
