My granddad wrote illustrated letters to my dad in 1940/41 which my dad kept in an album.
His drawings included the seven dwarves and Mickey Mouse so were very appealing to my brother and I when we were kids, we thought it particularly funny that every letter ended with “be a good boy”.
Dad was probably about 5 years old when he got these.
The album has disintegrated over time and now we only have the loose pages.
I believe that Granddad’s battalion was sent to Singapore but he missed going because he had an abscess on a tooth. He then became an instructor sergeant on trucks and tanks, I think in Shoeburyness, so not actually that far from where they lived in East London.
Later he would join the forces overseas liberating France & Belgium and in to Germany.
