To Clive Pitt from his mother

Dad discovered the note in his sandwich box sat on the train when he was setting off to join his regiment for the first time. It was very special to him and he carried it throughout the war in the chest pocket of his uniform. It became his most precious possession. Dad was a proud member of 48 RM Commando and was one of the first four wheel vehicles to disembark the landing craft on Juno Beach at Saint Aubin on D.Day.

Sky actually made a short film about Dad in 2019 to celebrate 75 years since D Day, unfortunately he passed away two weeks before the film was transmitted.

My Dear Clive

This is just a last word or two, to wish you all that you wish yourself.

Take care of yourself my lad and remember, I shall always be thinking of you and praying every night for your safe return at the end of this struggle. What ever I have said to you when I have been cross, you know I haven’t meant it, but I seem to get so irritable, so please forgive me and don’t forget, that if you want anything and it is in my power I shall do my best to send it to you.

So, cheerio Son. Keep your pecker up as I shall mine and then we shall come through with God’s help. You are starting a new page in your life today, so do your best, Clive, you have always been a good lad and I haven’t any fears for you.

So Cheerio

Never Forget

Your Mother
