Sunnybank flag-raising ceremony and unveiling of tribute

Sunnybank House Care Home is a registered Veterans Friendly Care Home working alongside the Royal British Legion, Royal Star and Garter and the Armed Forces Covenant.

For VJ 80 we are having a Flag Raising Ceremony at 11am on Friday 15th August and we will be unveiling a knitted spitfire that will be suspended to it looks like it is flying – just as Spitfires from Eastleigh Flew over the area during World War Two.

In the evening at 7pm we will hold a service of Commemoration in front of the Spitfire Tribute for the whole Community including the lighting of 80 lights underneath the knitted spitfire that will stay alight for the weekend

On Saturday 16th August, people can come and see the Spitfire Tribute during the day and in the afternoon there will be a community concert and garden party to mark the end of World War Two and hope for the future Sunnybank House Care Home, a proud Veterans Friendly Care Home, collaborates with the Royal British Legion, Royal Star and Garter, and the Armed Forces Covenant to honour those who served.

In celebration of VJ 80, we invite the community to join us for a Flag Raising Ceremony at 11am on Friday, 15th August. During this event, we will unveil a remarkable knitted spitfire suspended to evoke the image of flight, reminiscent of the Spitfires that soared over Eastleigh during World War Two.

Later that evening, at 7pm, a Service of Commemoration will be held before the Spitfire Tribute. This poignant gathering will feature the illumination of 80 lights beneath the knitted spitfire, which will remain lit throughout the weekend, symbolising remembrance and resilience.

On Saturday, 16th August, visitors are welcome to admire the Spitfire Tribute during the day. In the afternoon, the festivities will continue with a vibrant community concert and garden party, commemorating the end of World War Two and embracing hope for the future.
