They were my paternal grandparents. I have been given the honour of keeping them for our family history records. Sadly, my grandfather Leslie – originally from Bexleyheath – was one of approximately 13 who was killed whilst serving aboard HMS Hotspur in the first battle of Narvik. This is the last one received dated 2.4.1940. It demonstrates his love for her and his two sons, but is also an example of how little they were allowed to write given all letters had to pass a censor check. I have an envelope that has the “passed by censor” stamp.
