Stapleford 1940s Memorabilia Display and Music event

Involving various groups to assist in putting on a detailed display of archive material, footage, 1940s items, stories, presentation (Dig for Britain) and music and songs (School Swing Band) from the 1940s. This will be open to view at the Carnegie Centre daily, plus 2 evenings and Saturday morning. A 1940s car will be available on 8th May for a photo opportunity and we will be running a complimentary coffee and cake event over lunchtime on that day. A substantial ceiling display of Stapleford’s unique and emotive History of the Fallen banners and plaques will also be on display.

The Town Mayor and Town Councillors will be involved in the official Flag raising and Beacon lighting event. The Town Council has purchased the flag and beacon cover. Council has also funded a fish & chip supper for as many elderly residents at possible through a voucher scheme, for those who attend ‘older & vulnerable’ groups community events. A specific s137 grant fund of £250 per applicant, has been established to fund street parties etc in the VE Day week.
A multi community organisation steering group was established to discuss events, non duplication and for joint publicity and shared promotion, to enable everyone to be part of something noting the anniversary and being frugal.
