The BETSi group in Blackham Village have organised the activities below for VE Day 80, from May 8 to May 11, and there will be some more activities later this year for August 15th VJ Day 80.
A Village Walk on May 10 from this Church’s Lychgate war memorial to the Tommy Corner in Ironchurch Lane. Meet outside the church at 4pm or meet up with the walkers at 4.20pm as they arrive at the Tommy Corner.
Our Village Lamp of Peace will be lit at the Tommy Corner each night. Tommy has red solar lights sparkling from dusk to dawn.
Flowers (red, white and blue) laid at the at the Tree of Valour in the Blackham Churchyard.
Tommy ‘There but not There’ Silhouettes displayed in the church which will be open 11am and 3pm Thurs and Fri and 11am to 5.30pm Sat and Sun to see our poignant display, first installed for 2018 WW1 centenary.
Special History Exhibit for Blackham Village VE Day 80 is on display in the Bus Shelter at the junction of A264 and Ironchurch Lane. The exhibit can also be found online and is linked via a QR code.
