Desford: VE Day 80 Festival of the 40s

Desford Heritage CIO is a charity that aims to preserve, share and celebrate the history of our village.

Desford was home to an RAF training school prior to, and during the war, training thousands of pilots in Tiger Moths. As war intensified, the aerodrome also became an assembly line for Spitfires producing just over 1000. Our village is proud of this association and of all that was done by the 130 men and women who served abroad, and of the incredible spirit and sacrifice shown by those who remained in the Home Front.

This event will span the entire village as we remember and pay tribute to this amazing generation. With hundreds of re-enactors, vehicles, actors, musicians, aeroplanes, exhibitions, interactive displays and more, we hope that The Festival of the 40s will be a fitting tribute to this very special anniversary of VE Day and those people who made it possible.
