Diss VJ Day Service & Beacon Lighting

A shared moment of celebration. Brief Description of Order of Service:

The service will begin with welcome music by the Gislingham Variety Club, followed by an introduction from compere Iain Sturgeon, Bandmaster of the Salvation Army. The VJ Day commemoration will feature readings, including the Epitaph delivered in two parts by County Councillor Keith Kiddie and others, with musical tributes such as the Last Post and Reveille performed by the Salvation Army Band. A reading from Basil Abbott of The Road to Mandalay by Rudyard Kipling. Representatives from the Royal British Legion, RAF Association, and Air Cadets will present standards. Prayers will be offered by members of Churches Together and St Henry Morse Church. The beacon will be lit by honoured citizens Richard Pither and Alan Franks, and hymns led by Birgitta Kenyon and Ella-Rose O’Grady, supported by the Salvation Army Band.
