Epping Forest District Museum VE Games Day

On 5 April 2025, the Epping Forest District Museum opened its new exhibition, ‘Calm and Courageous: The Second World War Home Front in the Epping Forest District’.

The exhibition explores the real-life experiences of residents in the district during the Second World War. It is intended to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the war’s end in Europe and highlights how the conflict affected every aspect of daily life, from bombings and rocket attacks to the evacuation of loved ones to safer, rural areas of the country.

To accompany this exhibition, the museum will be running a VE Day Games Day at the museum on Saturday 10 May, featuring family-friendly wartime games and toys in and around the museum.

Activities will include skittles and skipping ropes in the museum garden, as well as games such as snakes and ladders, Battleship, noughts and crosses, playing cards, and Jacks in the museum galleries.

Join in and learn what childhood was like in the 1940s and, along with the exhibition, learn about the Home Front in the Epping Forest District of Essex and how the war impacted the lives of district residents.
