Exhibition to commemorate 80th Anniversary of VJ Day

Discover more about this ‘Forgotten War’ and just how vast it was stretching from India to Alaska. Between 1941 and 1942 over 50,000 British Forces were captured by the Japanese and spent three and a half years in captivity – they did not get their back freedom until 15th August 1945, and some were not aware of the surrender until two weeks after this. At the exhibition there will be an illustrated timeline of events and the battles that took place over land, in the jungle and across the seas. There will be maps and artefacts to see, stories of servicemen who were there who came from our villages and of the fathers of some people who now live in our community to read and images of the POW camps drawn and kept secret until after the war. Exhibition open 2-5pm, Sunday 17th August. Refreshments available. Free Parking.
