On Wednesday 6th August from 3:00 – 4:00 pm, Piers Bowser will give a talk based on the secret wartime diary of Captain Clarkson Blackater, Prisoner of War of the Japanese from 1942 -1945
Glasgow born, Captain Blackater was captured by the Imperial Japanese Army at the fall of Singapore in February 1942, and sent to work on the notorious Thailand to Burma Railway. The secret diary he kept throughout his imprisonment became the basis of his book ‘Gods Without Reason’.
80 years on from his liberation, his grandson, Piers Bowser, uses extracts from his grandfather’s book, along with private letters and poems to reveal the extent to which his grandfather’s love for his family, his homeland and his faith sustained him through the dark days of his captivity.
