Everybody is invited to the Garboldisham joint VE/VJ day celebration on Sun 11th May 1400-1700 at the Garboldisham Village Hall.
A celebration it is indeed! We have a live band ‘Skyliner’ providing the backdrop to our event with music from the 1940s. There is a licenced bar serving hot and cold refreshments and local ale provided by the community owned and run The Fox Pub. A BBQ will ensure no one goes hungry.
Garboldisham Church School are providing an array of posters and poems of what VE day means to them. The history society will furnish us with displays and literature to help us learn about the significance of VE/VJ day and how it was celebrated locally. The W.I are baking the orange and ginger W.I. official VE Day celebration cake for you to try. They will also help us learn about the W.I.’s involvement in the war effort.
In the morning, there will be a separate memorial church service at St Johns Church, with a poignant tribute and some roaring choruses of traditional hymns. We’ll all finish it off by belting out our national anthem, proudly with the union flag flying o’er St John’s.
This is the last time there will be any national effort to celebrate VE/VJ day, we want to make it as special as possible, we’d love for you to join us.
