An unforgettable day of racing and celebrations as Kempton Park celebrates 80 years since Victory in Europe Day alongside our wonderful local community!
We’ve been at the heart of Sunbury-on-Thames since July 1878 when businessman S.H Hyde saw 400 acres of land ‘for sale or lease’ between Hampton Court and Sunbury on Thames and decided this would be the perfect location for a racecourse. We’ve seen some change in our 147 year history and the Kempton Park Community Raceday is the perfect opportunity to celebrate our history!
Whilst Victory in Europe (VE) Day itself falls on Thursday 8th May, Monday 5th May has been officially dedicated to community celebrations nationwide and Kempton Park’s Community Raceday is no exception.
Expect themed entertainment and our Picnic Enclosure will also be transformed into a traditional Great British Picnic Zone where racegoers can bring their own picnics and enjoy all the raceday has to offer.
We’re excited to be working with Sunbury and Shepperton Local History Society who will join us on the day to share fascinating insights into Kempton Park and Sunbury’s role during World War II, providing racegoers with the opportunity to reflect on the local community’s contribution during the War.
It’s not just the action on track to think about – there will be plenty going on off track to keep the whole family busy!
Racegoers are invited to enjoy our traditional Great British Picnic Zone where they can bring their own picnics and relax while enjoying the day’s racing and entertainment. To check our picnic policy please see here.
Free entertainment on the day will include:
-Facepainters
-Elles Belles Roaming Musical Trio
-Roaming Walkabout Entertainment
-Free Funfair Rides
As part of our mission to support our local community, there will also be a Community Showcase giving our local community partners a platform to engage with our racegoers.
