As chairman of the village hall, I arranged to have a beacon constructed and erected. A local businessman offered to help, and had the beacon fabricated in accordance with the plan that you provided, and he arranged for it to be erected and then donated it to the village hall and the community.
We chose to celebrate the anniversary on Monday 5th May, as it was a Bank Holiday and more of the community were likely to attend.
Despite a very strong NE wind, we had a very good turnout to witness the beacon being lit. Afterwards, everyone retire to the village hall to enjoy 1940s music, a glass of wine, nibbles and a good old chat.
