In May 2025 Long Bennington Bowls Club held a commemorative event for VE80 day. It was a huge success and well attended by club members and local village residents. We don’t want to forget that for a large amount of armed forces personnel and civilians the ravages of war did not cease on 8th May 1945. We will hold a simple ceremony at the bowls club to remember those who did not realise peace until VJ Day 15th August 1945. We will raise a commemorative flag and observe the 2 minute silence at 12 noon. In the evening we will pay our respects with a simple reading of an extract from the Poem by Laurence Binyon For the Fallen.
