Newbury Town Council, in collaboration with local partners, is proud to hold a commemorative service to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan Day), commemorating the end of the Second World War and honouring those who served in the Far East.
On Friday 15th August, at 11:00am, a service will take place at Newbury’s War Memorial, offering a time for the community to pay their respects to those who served and sacrificed during the conflict. All are welcome to attend.
Following the service, there will be a reception and exhibition in Newbury Town Hall, featuring stories and memories from local people with links to the war in the Far East and its aftermath.
Attendance for the reception and exhibition is free but must be booked in advance by emailing mayor@newbury.gov.uk.
The event will provide an opportunity for the community to come together to remember, reflect, and learn about the experiences of those who lived through this pivotal moment in history.
