Pop-up Talk – VJ Day80 – Cecil Merton (Z Force Intelligence Officer, Burma WWII)

2:30pm: Pop-up Talk in Shipston Museum

Serena Merton will speak about her husband’s Great-Uncle – Cecil Merton – who lived, worked and then served in Burma during WWII, operating behind enemy lines. Awarded the MC with bar for Special Ops bravery, Major Merton and his young family thankfully survived the war to be reunited.

Serena will be signing copies of her book “A Thousand Battles: An Intelligence Officer’s Battle Behind Enemy Lines in Wartime Burma.”

Our special display – Shipston Remembers – also includes the story and uniform of Regimental Sgt Major Cyril Mace (Japanese P.O.W.) who in 1942 survived the sinking of the Lisbon Maru.

Shipston Museum is open on Saturday, 16th August 2025 (12 noon to 4pm).
