A public proclamation will take place at Epsom’s iconic Clocktower in the Marketplace at 9am. In the evening, Epsom Downs Racecourse will open at 7pm for entertainment and an exhibition showing scenes of Epsom during WW2 and VE Day will be on show, all images are courtesy of Bourne Hall Museum.
Performances from Epsom Silver Band, the Show Choir, Laine Theatre Arts Choir and Nescot FE College will all take place.
Refreshments and fish and chips will be available. The racecourse will close at 9.15pm when crowds will make their way to the beacon at the viewpoint. Here, with the best view of London in the South East, Councillor Graham Jones and the Mayor of Epsom & Ewell will lead the event and light the beacon (9.30pm).
Standard Bearers from Royal British Legion and 135 squadron will also be in attendance .
The event is free of charge to attend, parking will be limited and please note that Grandstand Road will be closed to all traffic.
