Rhondda Cynon Taf Council plans to celebrate this year’s VE Day to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe with events on the 8th and 10th May.
On VE Day itself which takes place on Thursday 8th May, there will be a small flag raising ceremony at 10am outside Pontypridd Library, with Veterans and students from local schools. This will be followed by the lighting of a beacon at 9.30pm, which also takes place in Pontypridd at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.
On Saturday the 10th May, we are planning an all-day event in Ynysangharad Park, Pontypridd from 11am. The day will begin with a Service and Parade followed by a range of activities and entertainment in the afternoon.
The Council is also welcoming applications from groups to apply for a road closure for any street celebrations on the 5th May Bank holiday.
