Tibberton & St Lawrence schools: Celebrating 80 years of Victory in Europe

We are a local Church of England school nestled in beautiful rural surroundings who are hosting a day to celebrate 80 years of Victory in Europe with the whole community. There will be war time dances performed by the children, war time songs sung by our choir, war time music performed by our talented musicians, along with war time recipes cooked by our pupils. In addition, within the community and village hall there will be tea and scones provided by the local WI, a talented local band performing, and a magnificent display of memorabilia. The year six children of Tibberton will act a short performance of information they have found out in their history lessons, alongside some poems and prayers penned by the children themselves. On our extensive community field will be areas where families can relax and take in the ambience of the celebrations – a picnic rug or a deck chair may be brought along for your comfort. A ‘Waste Not, Want Not’ table will behold treasures available for swapping as well as a ‘Repair and Reuse’ station, where items that are in need of repair can find a loving home. Children can get creative and make war time vehicles using a multitude of recycled materials and  a ‘Knit and Natter’ nook will be available for people to pass their skills onto the next generation. We will be encouraging all in the community to plant their own fruit and vegetables and tend and add to the blooms that adorn our village. In the local church we welcome anyone to write ‘Thank you’ cards to service men and women, both past and present, so we can show our appreciation to them for their sacrifice and their service. Or simply sit and reflect in the peaceful surroundings about how lucky we are. Everyone in the village is welcome to celebrate with us and we look forward to seeing many of you there on the day. It would be lovely to see everyone dressed in 1940s style, or in red, white and blue. It will certainly be a day to remember for many years to come!
