When war was declared in 1939, people were called upon to ‘do their bit’. The government conscripted men aged eighteen to forty-one into the armed services. However, those who stayed at home also had vital roles to play. They took up important war work, all this while juggling family life, coping with shortages, and facing many uncertainties..
This exhibition looks at life on the home front, and the efforts of the British people to ‘win the war’.
The exhibition is open 29 March – 16 September 2025, Tuesdays to Saturdays 10am to 5pm and 1:30 to 5pm on Sundays.
Admission to the museum and exhibition is free.
