Gordon Spence to his wife

This letter to my mum from my dad wayback on march 31/3/42:

My very own darling Darling,

This morning has been hell and now its worse, but not for long my precious. We shall all be together again very soon, I am sure. God can’t allow these dispicable criminals to cause so much misery, such unnecessary misery and sadness for much longer. I am afraid I couldn’t face up to the “au revoirs” as “au revoirs” they surely are but my darling you know how much I love you and our babies. Sixteen wonderful years have I to thank you for, my own and after a short interval many many more to come. God bless you my sweetheart and keep you and all our little ones safe and happy. Give each them a big hug from their Daddy and tell Patrick I look to him during my temporary absence to look after you. John and Mary must also do their bit. With my love and kisses, my Blessings and a great big hug. Your very very own ever loving and adoring husband. Pat I shall pray for you my sweet and have have masses said for our safety.
