The letter was sent to my nan from her husband Henry who died during the Second World War in May 1943. He was on manoeuvres in the New Forest when a bridge collapsed as a Bren gun carrier was crossing the river. The vehicle landed upside down in the river, once the carrier was lifted and the men were released it became apparent that sadly Henry had drowned.
We found this letter in a memory box , my Nan had saved lots of keepsakes from her lifetime. Including this letter and lots of correspondence and news paper clippings regarding this part of her life.
