Lily Sutton to her son Frederick Hemmings

This is a letter from Lily Sutton of St Anne’s-on-Sea , Lancashire to her son, Frederick Hemmings .

Frederick joined the British Army on 9th September 1939, six days after the start of World War 2.

He enlisted at the Territorial Army drill hall in Acton, London and presumably wrote to his mother. By return, she sent him the letter which he never received; the letter was sent back to her and was kept in a safe place until her death . The letter was retrieved by Frederick and inherited by me on his death in 1979 .
