This letter was written by my grandfather, Philip Warwick, to his son John and his daughter, Yvonne, who is my mother.
Because my mother and her brother were very young when he was killed in a bombing raid over Germany in 1943, my grandmother feared that the writing may fade before they were old enough to read his words.
My grandmother, Elsie, approached The Daily Mirror asking where she could get a copy of the letter printed. The Daily Mirror asked if they could print it in the newspaper as an example of a letter from servicemen to their children, and it was published in the paper on November 16th 1943.
As my mother had a framed copy of the newspaper version, I have always been aware of the letter growing up. It is only in more recent times that I have seen the original handwritten letter and scanned it, and also a small printed version.
