I have known about Ronnie as my my Eve told me how Ronnie was killed just aged 17.
He ran away after his Sister Mary Chadwick was strangled by her husband .see news of man of Yardley manslaughter charge ..so Ronnie went to war ..my mom Eve in the keter and Elsie my nan knew nothing about Ronnie why he is buried in Ledringhem Cemetary in France.
Well my mom had showed me Ronnie’s letter many times but nothing else
My mom Eve died four yrs ago and I kept on to my brother to find the letter from Ronnie. He said it’s not with my mom’s belongings.
I found out the year before mom Eve died that Ronnie’s first name was George and received info online about his grave and regiment number etc.
So this year I asked my older sister Barbara to get mom’s documents – the letter must be there it was important to her placed in an envelope in a cardboard box
Joy my sister found the letters and finally this week we saw Ronnie’s photo for the first time.
There are two letters, the one is so feint but talks about a time when they went out to the pub with Edie my nanny Pearce Elsie’s sister and that there was a black out ..the other letter fully legible talks about him asking Elsie my nan to send him a cake and he would send her the money.
Sadly Ronnie George Ronald Pearce Aged 17 was killed in action 28 may 1940
Ronnie has always been mentioned through my 63 yes and my mom lived till she was 90 and my nan Elsie aged 98.
I’m proud to be singing in my local church community choir and I will be thinking of Ronnie and honouring those who gave their life’s so we are free. Ronnie always ended his letters best of luck god bless you from your loving brother Rob ..he was my nans actual brother in law but like a son to her as my mom was similar age and they use to play together ..his broke the family heart …Ronnie will always remain a big part of my family ..I now I can see his face at last .I’m so proud of you Ronnie x
