Cottesmore 80th Anniversary of VJ Day commemoration

The volunteer run Museum is home to the SINGAPORE steam locomotive which is a UK registered war memorial to the remembrance of Far Eastern Prisoners of War 1941-45.

On the 80th anniversary of VJ day on Friday 15th August the Museum is to host a remembrance event with the Singapore locomotive remembering the war in the Far East and the end of World War 2. The museum is open from 10am and at 1.30pm a commemoration event will take place in which museum visitors are invited to participate by placing an orchid or poppy on the footplate of the loco in memory of the allied forces and civilians involved. Both military and civic representatives have been invited to attend and the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland will also be present to lay a wreath.

After the commemorative service light refreshments will be available and visitors can also explore the museum site.
