Kathleen Dearnley to Theo Pardoen

I found this message between the things Kathleen left when she passed in 1997. During the war she was in England and Theo was in the Netherlands. They knew each other from 1929 when they became penfriends.

Due to the economic situation in the thirties they weren’t able to marry, although they visited each other regularly. During the war they only could have contact through the Red Cross. This is the only message that survived. Notably it was written the day before D-day! Did Kathleen know it was coming? She did assembly work for an airplane manufacturer and her brother Ivan was in the RAF.

Theo only received the message after the war, if the date stamp at the bottom is correct. As soon as the war was over Theo became a translator for the Canadian army and as soon as possible he went over to England to visit Kathleen. They married in March 1946. Theo and Kathleen were my parents. This message of love we will always cherish.
