These letters were sent from Ron to his wife in May 1945. Ron was a POW firstly in Italy from September 1942 until September 1943 & then recaptured by Germans & became another POW September 1943 until May 1945.
I’m his oldest granddaughter. However Ron’s letters & war diary as a POW was only found after his wife died in 2003. His own daughter had no idea he had kept any of this & she never remembers him talking about it. In 2020 I’ve transcribed his war diary notes & put together a file with them, photos & letters.
Ronald Daniells was in the Royal Artillery ( Army number 1092945) He was born in 31.01.1909 & died in 13.5.1970.
He married his wife Florence ( known as Ciss) on 8.8.1936. They had two children: Ann born in 1938 ( my mum) & Bob born 1940.
Ann was just 2 1/2 & Bob 16 months when their daddy went to war & 6 1/2 & nearly 5 1/2 when he came home!
