VE Day 80th Anniversary Celebrations
📅 Thursday 8th May 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
This year marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and we are proud to be commemorating this important milestone with a whole-school celebration at Rivington Foundation Primary.
Throughout the week, children will take part in history lessons to explore the significance of Victory in Europe Day—why it is remembered and what it meant both across the UK and here in Rivington.
To bring history to life, our Treehouse will be transformed into a walk-in museum, showcasing stories, photos, and events from Rivington during World War II. If you or someone in your family has memories, photographs, or artefacts from the wartime era, we would be honoured to share them with our pupils as part of this special event.
🎶 On Thursday 8th May:
The day will begin with a whole-school assembly marking VE Day.
Children will enjoy a special VE Day Picnic Lunch, including:
🥪 Assorted sandwiches
🧀 Mozzarella bites
🥖 Sausage rolls
🍰 Victoria sponge cake
The afternoon will be filled with celebrations in class, including:
🎨 Making decorations
🎵 Learning wartime songs
🪁 Playing traditional games
🎈 Children are invited to come dressed in red, white and blue party clothes for the day to mark this joyful and meaningful occasion.
We look forward to a day of remembrance, learning, and celebration as we honour the courage, sacrifice, and hope of a generation that shaped our world.
With pride,
The Rivington Foundation Primary Team
