We have started a group to encourage a community gardening project that has entailed involving the local council tenancy team, councillors and residents. We are celebrating spring with our new flower gardens that has enabled children and young people to dig and plant bulbs to gain a sense of belonging and ownership. The groups are keen to organise a working day of gardening activities and a party to celebrate VE Day, planting poppy seeds and plant pot painting with many other suggestions of old fashioned arts and craft activities.
We are fortunate to have great green spaces for a street party in which we can organise sports and games from the war times. The community is an average low income neighbourhood that have never organised a street party. This celebration would be a new thing that if was organised well to involve lots of local residents, volunteers and workers to enjoy VE Day.
